Linear High Power C-Band Amplifier.

Abstract

The primary effort of the program was directed toward the development of a 10 kW cw crossed-field amplifer (CFA) to cover the 4.4-5.0 GHz communications band. Detailed specifications for the device are presented. The anticipated application, a power booster stage for existing transportable tropo-scatter communications equipment, dictates the requirements for a minimum of 10bD gain (less than 1 kW drive power), high efficiency to permit the design of an amplifier requiring less than 20 kW of prime power total, and mechanical and cooling properties which are compatible with transportable equipment.
