Coherent Transponder Specification and Recommendation for its Bench Testing,

Abstract

A study was made to define the specification relating to the coherency of a coherent transponder. The panel, on the basis of information which was available, studied the problem. Recommendations were made on the following: Definition of coherency as applied to the transponder; Specification defining the coherency of the transponder in terms of the transponder parameters; Test circuits to be used to evaluate the transponder coherency characteristics; The derivation of an expression relating the frequency error with the phase error of the transponder. Two different circuits for the evaluation of the transponder coherency characteristics are suggested, one for use with the AN/FPS-16(AX), the other for use with the AN/MPS-36. (Author)
