Development of a Process for Producing Transparent Spinel Bodies.

Abstract

Transparent spinel material was made and processing variables documented. Present studies involved continued improvement of reproducibility and the characterization of the process and the material it produces and included the substitution of commercially available spinel or alumina raw materials, the kinetics of volatile additive removal, and the documentation of acoustic emissions during mechanical testing from spinel, alumina, and Lucalox(R) alumina.
