Kinetics of Hydrogen-Oxygen and Hydrocarbon-Oxygen Reactions.
Abstract
A summary is presented on the authors's research concerned with elementary reactions involved in combustion processes. Work has been concentrated into four main areas of investigation: A detailed analysis of the mechanism and velocity constants for the D2 + O2 reaction; Studies of the addition of small quantities of hydrocarbons and related compounds to slowly reacting H2 + O2 mixtures at 480 - 500C; Studies of the oxidation of formaldehyde, acetaldehyde and propionaldehyde in the temperature range 400 - 540C to provide information first on the reactions of alkyl radicals, and secondly on the reactions of HO2 radicals; and Studies of the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide in the presence of H2, and of CO, to give velocity constants for the reactions of OH radicals with H2O2 and with CO.
