Experimental Programs with the BRL Tandem VAn de Graaff and Cockcroft-Walton Accelerators.
Abstract
A second year of investigations with the BRL Tandem Van de Graaff has been completed. Research in several areas has been continued and, in most areas, some results are now available. This memorandum report presents these results and it indicates actual or planned research in areas where results have not yet been obtained. Studies in neutron physics, Coulomb excitation, Mossbauer effect, charged-particle reactions, heavy-ion physics, nuclear structure, radiation chemistry, and radiation physics are discussed. During this second year, a major effort has been continued at the Tandem for facility development. These peripheral facilities are described in some detail for the benefit of potential users. Cooperative programs with universities and with other defense researchers are discussed. Also the programs using the Cockcroft-Walton accelerator are presented. (Author)
