Design of a High Stability Voltage Controlled Crystal Oscillator.

Abstract

Quartz crystal oscillator circuit characteristics are reviewed in respect to achieving a plus or minus 5 ppm overall center frequency tolerance for a 20-22 MHz VCXO under a wide range of operating conditions including channel selection by crystal unit replacement and the inadmissibility of temperature control. A crystal oscillator circuit is described which is capable of a frequency-temperature stability better than plus or minus 4 ppm over a 0 to 60C range while maintaining essential frequency deviation and linearity performance.
