Short-Time Elevated Temperature Mechanical Behavior of 2014-T6 Aluminum Alloy Weldments.

Abstract

The influence of loading rate and exposure time at temperature on the short-time elevated temperature mechanical behavior of naturally aged and artificially aged 2014-T6 aluminum alloy weldments was investigated in the 75 to 800F temperature range. The interrelation of the strength, ductility, and fracture location in these weldments with the microstructure of the heat-affected zone and changes in the microstructure of this zone during elevated temperature exposure are described.
