The Communication Satellite -- A Perspective for the 1970's,

Abstract

While editing two books on communication satellites for The MIT Press, it seemed necessary to try to set the 74 papers on technology and systems in these two volumes into the context of the 'communications revolution.' The preface to the two books therefore attempted to relate communication satellite programs to current research and development programs in digital data networks, videophones, cable television distribution systems, video cassette and home playback equipment, and millimeter waveguide and laser links. That brief preface was expanded to this paper.
