On a Class of Multivariate Birth and Death Processes.

Abstract

The paper studies the class of birth and death processes whose birth and death rates factor into a function of the sizes of the population components and a function of time. General results are obtained for bith processes along with a characterization theorem. Partial results are obtained for birth and death processes. Both these processes have special cases yielding the multinomial, multiple Poisson, and the negative multinomial distributions. (Author)
