The Smoothing of Seismological Travel-Time Tables Using Cubic Splines,

Abstract

The use of cubic spline functions for the smoothing of seismological travel-times data is suggested. This smoothing method is compared with other methods used for that purpose. The final stages of the production of the Herrin P-Tables are critically examined, and the use of cubic spline functions for their smoothing is shown to improve the resulting table. (Author)
