Research in Store and Forward Computer Networks

Abstract

The report studies the properties of the ARPA Network, routing within store-and-forward networks, and reliability analysis of large networks. Principal results include: economic studies of ARPA Net properties showing near optimal performance; a throughout reliability analysis of the Net showing high adaptability to component failures; a demonstration indicating that high peak bandwidths are obtained at virtually no costs; a description of a new, near optimal routing algorithm; and descriptions of major computational advances for the shortest path and reliability analysis problems.
