The sea ice program conducted by the U. S. Naval Oceanographic Office principally in support of DEEP FREEZE 70 antarctic operations is presented. Methods of data collection and dissemination, ice forecasting, ice advisories and allied ice projects are discussed. Ice conditions observed by aerial reconnaissance in the Ross Sea and McMurdo Sound from November 1969 to February 1970 are summarized.
