Theory for the Pressure Dependence of Tc for Narrow-Band Superconductors.

Abstract

A theory for the pressure dependence of T sub c in narrow-band superconductors is proposed. New physical mechanisms which in transition metals lead to an increase under pressure in the Hopfield parameter eta and in some cases even an increase in T sub c are discussed. It is shown how investigations of the pressure dependence of T sub c may give information on the importance of lattice instability and/or spin fluctuations on T sub c. Approximate calculated values of the partial derivative of (T sub c) with respect to p are presented for all of the superconducting transition-metal elements and for a few compounds. (Author)
