Investigations on the Working Accuracy of the GAL-OMPO-2 Gravimeter (Issledovanie Tochnosti Raboty Gravimetra GAL-OMPO-2),

Abstract

The paper presents the investigation results of an automated marine gravimeter during sailing on a surface ship and in a submarine. They revealed that the gravimeter, with a working range of 12-20 gals, has plus or minus 2.8 mgal random error (10-40 gal disturbing accelerations) for work on the surface ship, and plus or minus 2.3 mgal for work in the submarine. No systematic errors result from the vertical accelerations within the range up to 35 gal; the horizontal accelerations of the same magnitude entail a systematic error amounting to 1.5 mgal. The instrument's reading accuracy is equal to 1 mgal with 0.3 - 0.4 mgal threshold of sensitivity. The gravimeter remains insensitive to line voltage variation within the limits of plus or minus 5%.
