Magnetic Properties of the Solid Hydrogens.

Abstract

Measurements of the magnetic and thermal properties of solid H2, D2, and HD have been performed in the temperature range 4.2K to 0.03K. NMR measurements on solid H2 have been used to determine the crystal field splitting of ortho H2 molecules in para H2. Coherent nmr pulse techniques have been used to obtain and study solid spin echoes in H2 and D2. NMR determination of the anomalous diffusion coefficient of ortho H2 molecules in solid PH2 were attempted. The thermal conductivity of solid H2 samples containing various ortho H2 concentrations below 10% has been measured using the one thermometer-multiheater technique over the temperature range 6K to 1.5K.
