Thermal Stresses in Ring-Reinforced Oval Cylindrical Shells.

Abstract

The thermal stresses induced in ring-reinforced oval cylindrical shells, subject to various heat inputs are presented. The problem is divided into two main sections: determination of the transient and steady-state temperature distribution on the oval shell, and calculation of the resulting thermal stresses. In the temperature problem, two heating rates are considered. One is a uniform linear heat transfer rate and the second is a step-wise constant rate in the circumferential direction. Throughout the analysis temperature distributions that are a function of the circumferential coordinate only are considered. (Author)
