Monitoring of Cerebral and Cardiovascular Events.

Abstract

The correlation between localized vascular defects in the brain with cardiovascular disorders was undertaken by means of processing data coming from topographical EEG studies and those coming from ECG studies. The ECG evaluation programs of the Medical Systems Development Laboratory (MSDL) in Washington D.C. were translated and adapted for use at the laboratory of EEG and Applied Neurophysiology (LENA) in Paris. A service program was then written to control and write out the way in which the main analytical and diagnostic program works and subsequently the adapted MSDL program was introduced for clinical evaluation to cardiologists at the Salpetriere Hospital in Paris. Mathematical low-pass filters adaptable to the ECG were studied and a sub-routine was developed which is automatically applied to the main program when the noise is above a given level. Parallel to the work on the programming of ECG diagnosis, the investigation and development of a completely new approach to the aid to EEG diagnosis was undertaken. A new series of programs were written to analyze primarily the evolution of the EEG in time, mimicking the visual analysis of the EEGer rather than to present the EEG's topological characteristics.
