Shock Response of a Packaged Item to a One-Half Sine Acceleration Pulse or an Equivalent Free Fall Drop.

Abstract

A correlation was formulated between the shock applied to a packaged item by a 42 G-17 millisecond, 1/2-sine acceleration pulse and an equivalent free fall of 40.2 inches. From physical tests and theoretical analysis, the Ammunition Engineering Directorate's Munitions Packaging Laboratory demonstrated that similar shock responses could be expected on a packaged item from both shock phenomena.
