In Situ Investigations of Foundation Soils at Two Building Sites, Detroit Arsenal,

Abstract

In situ investigations of the foundation soils at two sites for the proposed Track and Suspension Laboratory Building were performed. The primary dynamic investigations were conducted in two phases: seismic tests and vibration tests. Each type of test was designed to reveal specific information relative to the physical properties of the soil underlying the test sites. From the test data and the wet unit weight of the soil, compression and shear moduli of the foundation soils were computed for various depth ranges to a depth of 75 ft at site 1 and about 60 ft at site 2.
