High-Energy Storage Investigations.

Abstract

The reported storage of large amounts of energy in hydrocarbon materials exposed to a helium glow discharge has been investigated by means of an apparatus which provided significantly increased parameter control over previous designs. A statistical study was made of the products of 28 experiments carried out under conditions identical to those which had earlier produced a sample with a measured heat of combustion of 31 Kcal and an implied energy storage of approximately 20 Kcal. This analysis revealed that the distribution of the heats of combustion of the products was normal , indicating that there had been no unusual energy storage. (Author)
