Airborne Photographic Measurements of Natural Aurora - 1970-1971.

Abstract

Photographic measurements of faint auroral phenomena were made from AFCRL KC-135 No. 53120 during the fall-winter of 1970-71. As a partial objective of the project, instrumentation was developed to provide wide field of view (30 degrees -45 degrees) coverage with less than f/1 objective optics on a 70 mm film format. Extensive color and black and white records were obtained for AFCRL using this instrumentation during the February-March auroral flight missions, showing the detailed morphological development of highly striated aurora.
