Propagation Characteristics at 15 GHz on an 18-km Overwater Relay.

Abstract

A 14.87 GHz prototype relay system was operated betweed the Federal Aviation Administration control towers at Tampa and St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airports to evaluate its use in relaying surveillance radar information between adjacent airports. This report describes the results of the weather and fading analysis for the test period, with emphasis on the intervals that resulted in a marginal or unusable operational status. The indications are that this 15 GHz system would be operationally successful in any part of the U.S. if occasional brief outrages can be tolerated. (Author)
