Signal Phase and Magnetic Index (K sup p) in Trans-Auroral Omega Propagation.

Abstract

The extent of the visual auroral zone had been shown to depend on magnetic index (K sup p), and it was thought that correlation could exist as well between the vlf auroral zone and (K sup p). Analysis shows that the dependence is weak at most. A possible conclusion is that the observed phase fluctuation depends more on localized variation of the ionosphere within the auroral zone than on variation in the extent of the auroral zone.
