Experimental Method of Soil Classification According to Degree of Freezing (Methode Experimentale de Classement des Sols Selon leur degre de Galivite),

Abstract

On certain, so-called 'easily freezing soils,' the frost produces a major change in the structure which, during and after the thaw, brings about a decrease in their mechanical resistance. The report describes the installation which was developed and which makes it possible to subject several samples simultaneously to one and the same freezing process; the report justifies the parameters selected in order to describe the behavior of the soils and to establish their classification. The report presents a certain number of results which have already been published, particularly as regards the selection and definition of parameters used in soil classification. (Author)
