Evaluation of Erosion Qualities of Steel.
Abstract
A new design of vent was developed to test the erosion characteristics of low alloy steels differing slightly in chemistry and mechanical properties. Preliminary firing with this system has indicated that a good precision can be maintained in the ballistic parameters and thus can give rise to consistent and repeatable erosion data. Based on previous studies, calculations have been carried out that indicate a potential for developing this system into a cannon erosion gauge. (Author)
