MIL SAT COM Phased-Array Control.

Abstract

The report presents the results of a seven-month study and investigation of techniques for the control of phased-array antenna to be used in a ground terminal of a TDMA satellite communications system. A control subsystem was designed that uses a hard-wired high-speed digital processor to control a 576-element array. The beam-steering section of the processor allows a beam redirect time of less than 2 us. The report discusses various array control techniques and describes a design based on the optimum techniques found. The design was simulated on a computer to study the effects of various quantization errors. (Author)
