Mode Locking of Coupled Transitions in Krypton Lasers.

Abstract

A novel technique is described in full detail for selectively mode-locking any one oscillating transition, in a laser that has several simultaneously oscillating transitions, without directly locking the others. Detailed experiments were performed showing the effects of the mode-locked pulse on the other oscillating transitions. Based on the experimental results obtained, a theory is developed in terms of the common lower state lifetime for the competing transitions. (Author)
