Oceanographic Parameters for Acoustical Determination between Latitudes 22 degrees N and 30 degrees N along the 157 degree 50' West Meridian,

Abstract

During the period from May 1968 through April 1969 the ocean area from Oahu north to the vicinity of latitude 30 degrees N was examined each month for 12 consecutive months by means of nine ship cruises and 11 aircraft flights. Oceanographic data were obtained to be used in an estimation of the effect of environmental change upon underwater sound transmission. Temperature, salinity, sound velocity, and bathymetric profiles are presented which document the variability; and the effects of these parameters on sound transmission are calculated. (Author)
