Oceanographic Observations for Acoustical Determination in the Pacific Ocean North of Hawaii, May 1969 through October 1969,

Abstract

A previous report described a one-year environmental study made between May 1968 and April 1969. This report describes the work accomplished from May 1969 through October 1969. The results of five ship cruises are reported which confirm the variability of the near-surface ocean environment in the area. A definite temperature inversion in the deep ocean below about 3800m depth is described. Several bathymetric profiles are presented; the results of current observations near the Sea Spider site are reported; and the results from analysis of three cores taken by USNS SANDS at the Sea Spider site are reported.
