Twinning in Niobium, a Continuous Nucleation Theory.

Abstract

The energy required to form a twin in Nb has been experimentally determined to be of the order 1 billion ergs/cc. This high energy has been explained in terms of a continuous nucleation theory which also accounts for the observed morphology of twins in B.C.C. transition metals and the heat evolved in the process.
