Surface Climate of the Arctic Basin. Selected Climatic Elements to the Performance of Surface-Effect Vehicles

Abstract

The report contains maps showing the distribution of monthly means and extremes of temperature, windspeed, dewpoint, and visibility within the Arctic Basin. These elements were selected because of their significance to the design and operation of large, Surface-Effect Vehicles which may be required to perform transportation services in that area. The distributions are derived from a considerable amount of observational data spanning a century of scientific research but primarily from Soviet and United States drifting stations maintained during the last two decades.
