Fundamental and Higher-Order Mode Analysis of the Helix and Helix-Related Circuits.

Abstract

An analysis of the fundamental and higher-order modes is presented for various geometrical configurations of circuits used in traveling-wave tubes. The field theory approach is used in treating the problem, and the results are given in the form of equations and graphs. General solutions are obtained that apply to an assortmetn of circuit geometries, and specific boundary conditions are applied to the general solutions to yield the results for a particular circuit. The electromagnetic field equations and coefficients, dispersion equations, and interaction impedances are presented. A compilation of graphs is given to show the characteristics of the various modes for the circuits studied. (Author)
