UHF Ferrites (Garnets).

Abstract

Two objectives have been defined for the performance of this contract. The first is the development of a low loss temperature stable magnetic garnet for an above resonance microwave UHF circulator. The second is to develop an S-band phase shifter material which would offer some improvement in temperature stability and lower materials cost over presently available ferrites. Dense, single phase garnet has been produced with the composition Y 1(.70)Ca(1.30)In(.35)V(.65)Fe(4.00)O(12). A survey has been made of the garnet and spinel S-band phase-shifter materials. A processing study has been started on a calcium-vanadium substituted YIG. Compositions with and without manganese substitutions have been prepared to explore the effect on remanent magnetization and stress sensitivity. (Author)
