Spectrophotometric Determination of Antimony in Sebacate-Base Semi-Fluid Lubricants.

Abstract

A spectrophotometric method is proposed for the determination of antimony in sebacate-base semi-fluid lubricants by the use of the yellow iodide complex obtained using a potassium iodide-sodium hypophosphite reagent. In the method, the organic matter is destroyed by treatment with a mixture of sulfuric and nitric acids and evaporation to fumes of sulfuric acid. Barium sulfate is filtered off, the solution is diluted in a volumetric flask, one aliquot is taken for the blank, and another aliquot is taken for development of the color. Conditions for development of the color were studied. Samples from seven producers of sebacate-base lubricants (MIL-L-46000A) were examined. (Author)
