Proceedings of the Meeting of the Mechanical Failures Prevention Group (16th) Held at the National Bureau of Standards, Gaithersburg, Md. on 2-4 November 1971.

Abstract

The report concerns three-day discussions by a group of nationally-recognized specialists of the subject 'Mechanical Failure Prevention Through Lube Oil Analysis.' Summaries are presented of twelve prepared talks and two panels which had as their objective the examination of the state of the art in the use of lube oil analysis with regard to both stationary installations and on-line systems. Limitations and gaps on the technology available for problem solving are identified, providing guidance for future research. Reports of problems encountered in current field service provide an estimate of the magnitude of the problem and the relevance of current research. Significant audience discussions are reported.
