Backrobbing as a Maintenance Policy,

Abstract

In a report from the Naval Air Rework Facility in Jacksonville, Florida it was stated that they used backrobbing to aid their other repair policies. This policy completed repair where the other methods could not be used. Repair of a failed system in the past has been accomplished by rework, inventory, and ordering. These repair policies have been governed by the cost of the individual parts and their corresponding failure rates. The forcing function which makes backrobbing feasible is the imputed value of the system. With backrobbing used as an added repair consideration, the system does not have to wait for repair any longer than the time it takes to repair that system. Considering that a normal queue will contain systems of the same design, any one of the systems in the queue is a potential donor for the system in the repair facility. (Author)
