An Approach for Determining the Optimal Interval between Preventive Maintenance Actions,

Abstract

The paper describes an alternative approach for determining the optimal duration between scheduled maintenance actions, using the given constraints. There appears to be a tendency, when determining the proper interval between maintenance actions to be either too conservative or too liberal. The report is aimed toward enlightening present outlooks concerning the feasibility of examining a situation to attain an optimal interval. The approach and direction in this report is concentrated upon a cost comparison of the scheduled and the unscheduled cost of a maintenace action based upon the equipment's actuarial failure tendencies.
