An Opportunistic Preventive Replacement Policy for a System with 'N' Independently Failing Subsystems.
Abstract
A minimum cost solution can be determined for a preventive maintenance policy applied to a system composed of several subsystems if: (1) they fail with an increasing failure rate over the life of each subsystem, and (2) the ratio of unscheduled replacement cost to scheduled replacement cost for each subsystem equals or exceeds some specified value. This paper solves the problem of determining the preventive maintainance policy for a system when the previously mentioned conditions exist. A model is developed that uses discrete failure rate data and discrete failure distributions. An example problem is included that aids explanation of the model, and the solution by computer is included. (Author)
