Proposals for Expansion of Use of Procedure 4 of Military-Handbook-472,
Abstract
Due to the importance of a maintainability prediction technique that can be applied to any type of system, the Department of Defense is very interested in expanding the use of Procedure 4 of Military-Handbook-472. As a result an attempt has been made to investigate all possible means of increasing the popularity and general appeal of the procedure. After a review of Procedure 4, the development of an adequate date source was determined to be essential to correct application of the prediction technique. The data sources considered were (1) a centralized data system, (2) a data-sharing system, and (3) a standard data appendix to Procedure 4. A combination of the centralized data bank and the standard data appendix was determined to be the ideal solution by a survey that included members of private industry. (Author)
