A Step Toward Eliminating the Guesswork in Determining Alternatives from Spectrometric Oil Analysis Data,

Abstract

Spectrometric oil analysis is explained and the programs within the Department of Defense are compared briefly. The principles of operation of the two basic types of oil analyzers being used are outlined. Actual field data was obtained for use in calculating thresholds and rate of change of wear metal concentration. The data obtained was not representative of the true populations but the calculations illustrate the methods that can be used to obtain the limits desired. (Author)
