On the Distribution and Biology of the Greenland Hooded Seal (O Raspredelenii i Biologii Khokhlacha Grenlandskogo Morya (Cystophora Cristata ERXL., 1777)),
Abstract
On the basis of the predetermined position of the ice edge, the author subsequently tries to establish the foundation on the basis of which one would be eventually able to predict the approximate position of the hooded seal accumulations. He also discusses the methods of the age determination of individual seals, methods of determination of their reproduction and mortality rates, the age at which seals reach sexual maturity, their physical growth rate, life regimen and life cycle, the age composition of their accumulations during recent years, etc. The author also mentions all data available to him and discusses his line of reasoning.
