Maintainability Design Guide for U. S. Post Office.

Abstract

The report was prepared as a maintainability design guide to be used by the U. S. Post Office Department in the development of automated letter and package handling equipment. General chapters discuss such elements of maintainability as simplification, labeling, and introductory material. These chapters are not geared toward a particular type of equipment, but are concerned primarily with the concept of the topic, as is affects all equipment. A mechanical chapter discusses such items as servicing, special tools and test points in their relationship to mechanical systems. Design considerations are also given for such items as covers, fasteners, mechanical drives, and bearings.
