The Allocation of Availability Parameters -- Repair Times and Failure Rates

Abstract

The paper develops a cost-based procedure for allocating the availability parameters, repair times and failure rates, to the various components that make up a system. The allocation problem is handled as a cost minimization problem, subject to the constraint of meeting the system availability requirements. A Lagrange multiplier technique is employed to obtain the solution. An example problem is stated and solved in the context of a computer program developed to perform the allocation procedure.
