A Device for Measuring the Current of a Cutoff Arc Close to Its Passage through Zero,
Abstract
Extinguishing an a-c arc depends on the processes taking place when the current passes through zero. This is no simple matter because the device for measuring the arc has to have high sensitivity to register slow currents and the capability to pass high currents while remaining undamaged. The author's method uses a magnetron tube in which plate current is controlled by the magnetic field of a control coil when the current to be measured flows through it. The shape of the plate, the material out of which it is made, and the point or points for reading plate current are important. The specifics for the control coil and its accessories are given.
