Certain Characteristics of Discharge in a Nonuniform Electric and Transverse Magnetic Field,

Abstract

Gas discharge in crossed electric and magnetic fields was studied in relation to concepts of confinement of high-temperature plasma, generation of electromagnetic oscillations, and commutation of high-energy currents. Electrodes in coaxial cylinders, with a fixed axial discharge symmetry during superposition of the magnetic field, were used. Results showed that the ignition voltage and the magnitude of the discharge current can be changed by means of magnetic fields. (Author)
