Meteorological Satellites and the Weather Service,

Abstract

A brief survey is given of the current capabilities of meteorological satellites in terms of coverage and quality of measurement, with emphasis of the use of this data for weather forecasting. Real-time television coverage of cloud formation is described, and illustrations are given of specific cloud structures including interpretation of the attendant weather situation. Measurements of solar radiation and of the earth's albedo are also discussed. (Author)
