The Question of Burning in Turbulent Flow,

Abstract

An attempt is made to analyze qualitatively the different combustion diagrams of jets in the development of discussions in the literature on the effect of turbulent pulsations in temperature on the combustion rate observed. Using ordinary terminology the author distinguishes three regions: the 'kinetic' region for small pulsations corresponding to the volumetric model of turbulent combustion; the 'intermediate' region in which the mixing characteristics and the total reaction rate are considerable; and the 'diffusion' region for which turbulent pulsations play a considerable role.
