The Resistance of Pyramidal Bodies in the Supersonic Flow,

Abstract

Narrow pyramidal shaped bodies whose geometry is determined by angles Delta, Phi, and Pi over Eta are examined. Based on a precise solution corresponding to a flow with a sharp discontinuity at the ribs of two adjacent lobes, a curve in the coordinates of Delta and Phi is plotted which bounds a region of flow with detached shock and attached shocks located between the lobes. The expressions for the pressure coefficient and the friction drag force coefficient make it possible to evaluate the effect of the number of lobes on the nose drag on pyramidal bodies.
