The Megampere Accelerator,

Abstract

A megampere accelerator is one in which the beam current is measured in millions of amperes. Such machines do not yet exist; however, beams close to megamperes have been attained. It is possible to focus beams in metal tubes and even bend them, thus yielding amplifications which are quite high. Targets at which these beams have been directed show effects similar to lightining, demonstrating the high power of these beams. Such phenomena will be important in laser technology. (Author)
