Results of Second Division Laboratory Testing Program on Standard Soil Samples.

Abstract

The results of laboratory tests performed on three standard soil samples by nine U.S. Army Engineer Division laboratories are presented and analyzed in this report. The tests performed were Atterberg limits, specific gravity, grain-size analysis, Q triaxial compression, and S direct shear using the procedures outlined in EM 1110-2-1906, 'Laboratory Soils Testing.' The analysis of the data indicates that the significant variations in the reported test values are due mainly to differences in laboratory equipment and techniques. Recommendations are presented for additional research to investigate the influence of varying certain of the standard soil testing techniques. (Author)
